As a professional Counsellor I am bound by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists Ethical Framework. Sessions are confidential. Trust and confidentiality are a part of the counselling relationship. There are however limitations to confidentiality. If I was concerned that you might be seriously thinking about harming yourself or someone else, it may necessitate me contacting other professionals. I would always speak to you before before contacting any other professional unless there is an immediate threat to personal safety where I would break confidentiality without consent.
As a requirement of my profession I receive supervision in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework. This is to primarily protect you and for you to be assured that what we are doing is ethical, safe and effective. This means that I will discuss my work monthly with a clinical supervisor who is also bound by BACP confidentiality regulations. https://www.bacp.co.uk/profile/fc67748a-efdd-e811-a956-000d3aba65fd/Therapist
